Original Mackinac Island Art Karen Ciske

Karen was born in Tawas
City, Michigan and raised in Mio, Michigan where she graduated from Mio
AuSable High School in 1981. Her artwork reflects the influence of
growing up in the country and in a small town, giving time to absorb,
appreciate and dream. Karen grew up with a loving family and continues
to cherish family, with it now being further extended. After several
years of not being completely content with her past career choices, Karen
decided to study art. After eleven years, in August 1996, she left
behind working in the Oscoda County Clerk and Probate Offices to pursue a
career as an artist. With an Associate in Arts from Kirtland Community
College in Roscommon, Michigan already earned in 1983, she went back to
college there earning an Associate in Fine Arts in 1997. Karen has
been in various juried fine art exhibitions. At the 2000 Northeast
Michigan Artists Juried Exhibition, she won an Honorable Mention Award.
Karen continues to reside in Mio, Michigan with her husband Paul and her son
Will. She continues to learn through self study, working toward
becoming a master of her own style. Her subjects typically include
people, nature's beauty, people's interaction wiith and efeect on their
surroundings, heartwarming scenes and captured moments. The
compositions usually come from the things that she sees in the world around
her, but she has also had the opportunity to compose several commissioned
works. The media in which she currently works are primarily oils and
watercolors.
